Choice of method travel

There are many factors which will influence people’s choice of travel method. This can influenced by a persons age, their job, where they live, who they are travelling with and why they are travelling.

However, whatever a person may be, or for whatever reason they are travelling, they may also be influenced by the following 8 factors:

  • Cost
  • Convenience
  • Availability
  • Frequency
  • Accessibility
  • Special offers and discounts
  • Timetables
  • Destination routes

Cost

price

How much money a person has will influence their choice of travel method. If someone has a lot of money they are more likely to pay for a first class seat on a flight for example.

Airlines, rail and coach companies offer a range of tickets at different prices and for different budgets. The cost of travel can also be affected by the time of day and month of the year. A train ticket on a peak time train will be more expensive than a ticket for 3pm on a Sunday for example. Airlines generally offer cheaper flights the earlier in advance you book.
